About Hoboken
The city of Hoboken, New Jersey, population 40,000, was first settled by the Dutch in the 17th Century. Just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, it is known as a ‘bedroom community’ due to the large number of suburban commuters, a quarter of whom work in finance or real estate in New York City. As the ‘birthplace of baseball’, Hoboken lays claim to being the place where the first official recorded game of baseball in US history was held. The zipper was also invented here.
