Hebron, West Bank (Reuters) - Israel has tightened its blockade of the West Bank city of Hebron after a gunbattle with Palestinians as Prime Minister Ariel Sharon prepares for talks in Washington with President George W. Bush. Witnesses said the army had moved piles of rocks and mounds of earth into place to enforce the blockade around Hebron, scene of a fierce confrontation on Monday between Palestinian gunmen and Jewish settlers and Israeli troops. Twelve Palestinians and five Israelis, including the seven-year-old son of settlers, were wounded in the city, a frequent flashpoint of violence in the Palestinians' nine-month-old revolt against Israeli occupation. |
