Well, long ago, these quills which you said you want to know about, which were used in sewing, long ago of course that stuff (trade dyes) did not exist, and what the women did with these (plants) was to prepare them and dye them, and they used to use various kinds of plants, one would pick some plant and simply put it into water and boil it, and sometimes the water turned bright red, and at times some of the plants looked green, and then the water turned that colour (green), and in that they used to dye these, then they would keep them boiling, these, the ones which stand up over here, all over their back.
